Literature Text

I came upon you standing there in February
Tall and proud and firmly planted on the ground
Your sun-kissed cherry pink petals dancing in the breeze.

You caught my eye because
every other tree is plain green
But you,
you are unique.

But then it kept raining

A canvas of dark gray clouds in the sky
and stormy winds released
a torrential pour of wind
Soaking every fiber of your branches,
washing away your precious blossoms
that, by the time I saw you in April,
You were bare with dead, red leaves

Yet Mother Nature and her cycle of seasons
will give you reprieve
The sky will be crystal blue and the sun
Oh, the glorious sun will shine once more

So no matter how long it takes
for you to reclaim your flowers
I know you will be even more beautiful than ever before
Day 7 of 30 Day Poetry Challenge

Prompt: Take a walk until you find a tree you identify with, then write a poem using the tree as a metaphor for yourself or your life.

Actually, I found this tree around campus back in February. I always am in awe how cherry blossom trees (and other blossom trees) bloom in time for Lunar New Year - a sign spring is coming around. It was really gorgeous and I loved how it stood out among the regular green trees. I don't have a camera, so I took a picture on my phone and it still is my phone's wallpaper.

I wrote this poem to reflect my life and how there was a huge factor that severely impacted my life (like the rainstorm); yet now I have come back stronger. I'll be sure going to keep an eye out to see when the flowers bloom again.
